The abuse occured when Fletcher was headteacher of a school in Bradford in the late 1980s. Fletcher was ordained in 2001 and since 2012 he has been Priest in Charge of the Waggoners and Woldsburn benefices, covering churches in Fridaythorpe, Thixendale, Fimber, Sledmere, Cowlam, Wetwang, Garton-on-the-Wolds, Bainton, North Dalton, Middleton, Kilnwick and Kirkburn. Mr Fletcher was ordered to register as a sex offender and was released on bail to reappear at the same court for sentence on 6th March. In a statement after the hearing, the Diocese of York said: “The Revd David Fletcher was convicted at Bradford Crown Court today of two cases of indecent assault against a child. “Whilst these offences took place more than a decade before he was ordained, we offer an unreserved apology to the survivor and those affected by this news. We commend the bravery of those who brought the allegations forward, acknowledging how difficult and distressing this would have been. “We are profoundly sorry for the abuse perpetrated by Mr Fletcher and remain committed to doing everything possible to ensure the well-being of children, young people and adults, who look to us for respect and care. “Our prayers are with everyone concerned and should anyone be affected by today’s news or want to share concerns please contact either the police or the Safeguarding Office of the Diocese of York.”

A Suzuki Swift and a Volkswagen Golf collided head on at around 5pm. Emergency services attended and two people were freed from the wreckage by firefighters before they were taken to hospital. The road remained closed for several hours afterwards. The male driver of the Golf suffered serious leg injuries and the woman who was driving the Swift was believed to be suffering only back pain, but it was later discovered she had broken her neck and faced potential paralysis. Both remain in Hull Royal Infirmary. via MyDriffield https://mydriffield.co.uk/two-seriously-injured-in-towthorpe-crash/Driffield Telephone wiring |
