A vicar from Wetwang who sexually abused a young boy over 30 years ago has been jailed for three years. Reverend David Fletcher, 63, was sentenced at Bradford Crown Court after being found guilty of two charges of indecent assault by a jury at the same court last month. Fletcher of Pulham Lane, Wetwang was also placed on the sex offenders register indefinitely. Fletcher abused a boy when he was headteacher of a school in Bradford in the late 1980s. He was later ordained in 2001. Since 2012, Fletcher had been Priest in Charge of the Waggoners and Woldsburn benefices, covering churches in Fridaythorpe, Thixendale, Fimber, Sledmere, Cowlam, Wetwang, Garton-on-the-Wolds, Bainton, North Dalton, Middleton, Kilnwick and Kirkburn. He stepped back from any ministry involving children and young people when the Diocese of York became aware of concerns in December 2014 and later withdrew from all public ministry as soon as he was charged.
