Following months of objection and speculation, the future of Driffield’s Minor Injuries Unit at Alfred Bean Hospital is now known.
The threat of closure has been hanging over the unit for a while and it has now been announced that it will not close. However it will be available purely by appointment and for the treatment of “low level minor injuries” only. The East Riding Clinical Commisioning Group (CCG) had originally said that the closure of units in Driffield, Hornsea and Withernsea was because of confusion about the services they offered leading to them not being well-used enough. Rather than clear up this confusion they opted to instead to decide to open three new Urgent Care Centres in Bridlington, Beverley and Goole – a move heavily-criticised amid claims that it was all about filling a budgetary black hole rather than fulfilling residents’ needs. Now there is new confusion as to what constitutes a “low level minor injury” and whether or not it will be easier to travel to one of the new centres than it will be to arrange an appointment in Driffield quickly. Driffield MIU will be open from 8am – 8pm seven days a week and the new Urgent Care Centres will operate from 7am – 11pm every day. The new centres are expected to open by the end of this year. via MyDriffield https://mydriffield.co.uk/victory-of-sorts-for-driffield-miu/Driffield Telephone wiring
